Our first book review! How exciting!
4 out 5 stars = Really Good!
Komi Can't Communicate is a manga about high school student Komi Shouko who wants to make 100 friends despite her intense social anxiety. Everyone else in Komi's class worship her, mistaking her shyness as cool and collected behavior. The only person who really understands Komi's predicament is new student Tadano Hitohito.
The situations in this story are just exaggerated enough to keep the tone light and comedic. Komi's anxiety is super relatable for anybody who struggles with social situations. My favorite is when she works herself up to finally, successfully interact with somebody. There are a few unsavory characters and moments (Yamai mostly), but overall they don't take away from the narrative. This story is great for anyone looking for relatable, slice-of-life storytelling and engaging artwork.
Now an anime on Netflix!
