Friends of the Library

About

The Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization that supports the Library by establishing a closer relationship between the Library and its patrons. The Friends operate Secondhand Prose, a used book store within the Library. The Friends assume various projects and sponsor special Library events that are open to the public. The Friends meet regularly throughout the year to discuss organization business.

  • Book Sale Committee: Coordinates the periodic book sale.
  • Traveling Books Committee: Provides free books for travelers at Baldwin Field, the train depot, and bus depot.
  • Book Store Committee: Manages and oversees the daily operations for “Secondhand Prose.”
  • Program Committee: Schedules speakers & presentations for monthly Friends meetings.
  • Public Relations Committee: Markets and promotes Friends events and activities.

Secondhand Prose Book Store

Secondhand Prose is a gently used book store operated by the Friends of the Quincy Public Library. The book store is located inside the entrance of the Library. A library card is not required to enter or to make purchases at Secondhand Prose.

Hours

Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Donations for Secondhand Prose may be dropped off while the store is open. The Friends do not accept donations of LPs, textbooks, encyclopedias, or magazines.

Book Sales

The Friends of the Library hold two book sales each year. There is one in the Spring and one in the Fall. Books are priced by the inch when stacked with some books being priced slightly higher. AV materials, including DVDs, Books on CD, and Music CDs are also priced separately.
