The Illinois Room at Quincy Public Library is dedicated to supporting local history and family research endeavors. Located in the adult reference area, the Illinois Room houses many resources such as books, government docs, newspaper excerpts, yearbooks, and family histories. Additionally, it offers essential equipment including three computers, three microfilm readers and a book scanner for patrons' convenience.  

Our collection emphasizes materials reflecting the rich history of Quincy and Adam’s County, encompassing published histories, documents, letters, organizational records, school yearbooks, city directories, microfilm, and other vital records.

Quincy Public Library’s reference librarians are available to show you how to use the resources and equipment in the Illinois Room and can help with your research on an appointment basis.  

Members of The Genealogical Society are available from 10 am to noon each Tuesday morning to help with ancestor searches. These volunteers can show you how to use local history material and point out additional options for researching your family. No appointment is needed.
