Jim Walker was born June 13, 1944.
He started working in the family business, Walker’s Shortbread, as a teenager & eventually became a full partner. (It’s the shortbread we see out in full force from Thanksgiving through Christmas, or pretty consistently at TJ Maxx.) Jim was instrumental in taking the company from a Scottish market to a global one, while maintaining strong ties to the Scottish highlands.
Jim Walker passed away December 15, 2024. He had been presented with the American Scottish Society’s Wallace Award for his contributions to Trans-Atlantic Relations & a knighthood from King Charles III.
The library has several mystery books that feature shortbread. We also have various cookie cookbooks featuring shortbread recipes, including a vegan cookbook. Books on British food are also available, as are books on Scotland. (Of course there is a wider array available through our partner libraries.)
Thank you, Mr. Walker, to introducing us to your family’s shortbread. Take a moment to enjoy some shortbread & your preferred hot beverage.
