Crack the Code: slang of today

Talking to The Youth can feel like reading a new fantasy or sci-fi book where everything has a new name and none of it makes sense. In an effort to increase your slang literacy, QPL presents a primer on some of the words being used today.

Two very large caveats to this list:
1. Words and meanings change all the time, so what is popular today will be forgotten later today.
2. These are not for you. Do not use them. You will not sound relatable; you will sound old. Read that again-these are not for you.

Ready? Let's begin.

"Era" - This one is a pretty straightforward place to start. This is a synonym for "season" or "phase."
Example: I'm in my self-care era.

"Rizz" or "Rizzler" - This comes from charisma. Someone who is particularly charismatic can be called the rizzler.
Example: Calling yourself the rizzler actually cancels any rizz you have.

"Mid" - Used to describe something as boring or mediocre.
Example: I was so bored, that movie was mid.

"Pop off" - When something gets really exciting or someone gets really emotional.
Example: That post popped off with millions of views. He pops off if you criticize his shoes.

"Ate" - Another emotional response, usually followed by "and left no crumbs." Used when someone has done a good job and left no doubt about their skills.
Example: The band ate that concert and not a crumb was left on stage.

"Menty B" - This is a shortened version of the phrase mental breakdown. Classically used as hyperbole for only a mildly stressful situation.
Example: I had a little menty b being stuck on the bus.

"Delulu" - Another shortened word, this one means delusion. Sometimes followed by "is the solulu" to mean is the solution.  A little more positive then it sounds, this usually means that staying optimistic can actually make things better.
Example: I didn't let the stress get to me and it turns out delulu was the solulu, I aced the test!

"On God" - This is the latest version of telling the truth. It's the updated version of "no cap."
Example: A: You sure you didn't take my lunch from the fridge? B: On god!

"Help" - Luckily, this is less of a distress cry and more about being confused.
Example: Help why is that dog looking at me.

"Take the L" - Another straightforward phrase to round everything up. This means to "take the loss," used when somebody doesn't succeed. When things go well, you have to "Post the W" on social media so your rizz can pop off.
Example: You can keep trying, but sometimes you have to know when to take the L.
