Program Description

Event Details

If you feel like any area of your life is not as it should be, then this program is for you. Do you know how to advocate for yourself and stand up for your rights? Do you feel powerless against your doctor, therapist, landlord, employer, or significant other? Do you question what your rights are and if you have the voice to reach out for help? Did you know that there are organizations out there on every corner to help you use your voice, know your rights, and gain support?

Everyone has this voice, but some feel powerless to use it, or may not be knowledgeable of resources out there to give strength to their voice. In a collaboration with a number of Quincy organizations, QPL has arranged an opportunity for you to come and speak one-on-one with:

  • Laurel Huston from TASC if you need resources and advocacy after getting out of jail or prison
  • Macy Ferguson-Smith from Quincy Medical Group if you need resources for your mental health care
  • Jessica Bowen from Quanada if you feel you are in an unhealthy relationship and don’t know how to advocate for yourself to get out of it
  • Catholic Charities for resources on counseling and other resources
  • Michelle Carter from Inter-Connect Employment Services for resources and advice on advocating for yourself in the workplace
  • the West Central Illinois Center for Independent Living for any elderly or disabled who feel they are being treated unfairly
  • Gem City Toastmasters to discuss how to advocate for yourself via public speaking
  • Reggie Fleer with The United Way on programs that can help you
  • and housing information provided by the Safe & Livable Housing Committee, Habitat for Humanity,

Come learn how to use your voice for self-advocacy!

Coffee, water, and a snack will be provided.
