To read? Or not to Read? Is often the question that comes up with banned and challenged books. This book club answers that question with a big 'Heck Yes!' In this club, we aren't afraid to be open minded, or to tackle tough subjects!
The Banned Book Club reads exclusively books that have been Banned or Challenged.
This month, the Banned Book Club will discuss The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid’s Tale has not only been repeatedly and consistently challenged throughout the nation since its publication in 1985 and has since made the American Library Association's (ALA) Top 10 list-- despite the fact that the book was released 15 years before the ALA started tracking the top 10!
Book selections are made 6 months in advance. Didn’t get the chance to read or finish the book? It happens. No pressure- you can still join the discussions! Any interested readers are welcome to join the club and dive into discussions at any time!
You are welcome to bring your own book, but library card holders have access to an audiobook or eBook for free from Hoopla or Libby, or an eEbook from Boundless (formerly Axis 360)! For a physical copy, contact Rachelle at rgage@quincylibrary.org or Sally at sblackwell@quincylibrary.org
