To read? Or not to Read? Is often the question that comes up with banned and challenged books. This book club answers that question with a big 'Heck Yes!' In this club, we aren't afraid to be open minded, or to tackle tough subjects!

The Banned Book Club reads exclusively books that have been Banned or Challenged. This month, the Banned Book Club will discuss The Awakening, by Kate Chopin. When first published in 1899, The Awakening so disturbed critics and the public that it was banished for decades afterward, and despite our modern times and the passage of 125 years, still continues to be challenged today! The Awakening is considered one of the first feminist works in American literature.

Book selections are made 6 months in advance. Didn’t get the chance to read or finish the book?  It happens. No pressure- you can still join the discussions! Any interested readers are welcome to join the club and dive into discussions at any time!

You are welcome to bring your own book, but library card holders have access to this book for free! To get a copy, contact Rachelle at rgage@quincylibrary.org or Sally at sblackwell@quincylibrary.org .

There will be no Zoom for this meeting. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We hope to see you all in person!
