To read? Or not to Read? Is often the question that comes up with banned and challenged books.

This book club answers that question with a big 'Heck Yes!' The Banned Book Club reads exclusively books that have been Banned or Challenged.

The club meets on the second Thursday of every month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. to discuss a book. Book selections are made 3-6 months in advance. Didn’t get the chance to read or finish the book.?  It happens. No pressure- you can still join the discussions! Any interested readers are welcome to join the club and dive into discussions at any time!

This month, the Banned Book Club will discuss I Know why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. I Know why the Caged Bird Sings has not only been been repeatedly and consistently challenged throughout the nation since its publication in 1955, but has even made the American Library Association's (ALA) Top 10 list of most often challenged books multiple times since the ALA started keeping track of the top 10 in 2001.

You are welcome to bring your own book, but library card holders have access to this book for free via Axis 360 (ebook or audio) or Overdrive (ebook). For a physical copy, contact Rachelle at rgage@quincylibrary.org

Is your schedule a little too complicated? Or you simply prefer home and pajama pants?  No worries! We get that! This is a hybrid book club and you will be able to Zoom in for the discussions!
