News & Notes
Audio and eBooks Now Eligible for Early Return:
Now, when you finish a digital book, you can return it before the end of a lending period. When you do so, the title is removed from your checkout list and made available to other patrons at the Quincy Public Library. You also free up a checkout slot, which allows you to check out another selection. Instructions to do an early eBook return.
Why isn't this book available on the Alliance Digital Media Library? Unfortunately, restrictions apply to a library that do not to an individual. A library, for example, cannot pay Amazon or Barnes & Noble for an eBook and then lend it out to its patrons. We can buy a printed book from these companies, place it on the shelf, and lend it out--but digital content is treated differently by the publishers and the companies who manage digital content licensing. The following companies currently refuse to sell or license eBooks to libraries:
Think that's wrong? So do we. Please contact us if you would like more information.
You can also write or call each publisher to let them know what you think.
How to Download a Digital Title
First-time users must download software.
- OverDrive Media Console (for Audiobooks, iPad, iPhone, MP3 player, Android, and Blackberry)
- Adobe Digital Editions (for eBooks, Nook, e-readers, and laptops)
On your home computer, click here or the download audiobooks-ebooks icon at the top of the page. NOTE: you must be on a personal computer to download materials. Library computers do not support the download and transfer of materials to your device.
Log into the Alliance Digital Media site by selecting Quincy Public Library and entering your Library card number (number on the back of the card just below barcode).

By clicking on the Advanced Search option you can look for titles available in your media format exclusively.
Add any available title to your cart. You may also place an unavailable item on hold.
When you are ready to check out click “Checkout.” Confirm your selections and choose your loan period (7, 14 or 21 days), then click “Proceed to Checkout.” Finally, click “Confirm Checkout.”
Click “Download” to transfer the title to your home computer. This process will open Overdrive or Adobe automatically. You may be asked to create a new folder, click OK.
